To Lucille at 12 Months

Lucille at 11 months!

Your last month as a baby has finally come to an end. It was a great month - we had lots of fun and you kept learning and growing.

First Visit to the Atlanta Zoo

You have also been challenging us with your "independent spirit". You know that outlets are off-limits so now when you are by one, you look at us, and then say "aeh, aeh, aeh" (meaning no). Similarly, at dinner you aren't supposed to put your feet on the table. So you will try to slyly sneak a foot up really slowly without us noticing. It is really hard to not crack up when you do this. I think the most frustrating thing you do is throwing. You love to launch things into the air - from your stroller, highchair, car seat- it doesn't matter, you will throw it.

Food Fight
On the physical side, the biggest news is you took your first steps by yourself! You were playing with a toy and didn't realize you weren't holding on to the ottoman anymore. You had done this before, but this time rather than sit down, you decided to walk five steps over to the chair. It took a few more weeks, but with only a few days before your birthday you were walking wherever you wanted to go. You still like help from time to time.

Running girl

You are now an expert at getting up and down off the couch using our pillow wedges. You'll run right up them and on to the couch. You can dismount really well- legs first like I trained you to do. I have even taught you to do somersaults off the couch down the wedge. You think it is great fun! Some other more advance moves included "jumping," dancing, squatting up and down.

You have been really enjoying your Radio Flyer Scooter (an early birthday present). You like to push it around everwhere and also enjoy having mommy push you on it.

You absolutely love water in any form. If you see water you will pretty much run towards it and want to go immediately in.

You are still not officially talking, but you have all kinds of new sounds and you are the master mimicker. Some of your new sounds include kissing, "popping," and raspberries with tongue out. I think my favorite moment was when you farted really loudly while you were drinking your bottle. You paused a second and then you "farted" with your mouth trying to reproduce the noise.

You have learned how to wave hello and good-bye. You even say "buh buh" to your daddy when he leaves. You always wanted to play with my laptop so we got you one of your own. You love it, but still want to play with ours more.
