Baby girl,
Time seems to be moving faster and faster. I can't believe you have been alive for almost a half a year. Let's see...what did this month bring for you?
Well for a start, early this month you discovered your own feet! It was like you looked down and were like..."what the hell are those!!!" You quickly got over your surprise and started to grab these new found toys. You haven't figured out how to put them in your mouth yet though. Not sure if that is due to brain power or the fact that you are so long.
Now that you understand you have feet to command you use them as much as you can in call kinds of ways. You kick, you grasp with your toes, and I think my personal favorite is you go from laying on your back to standing with one pull upwards by mommy or daddy. You look so proud when you get to standup. Like, "that's right, I did that - what!"
Another new skill was a shock to your dad and me. We were in the other room and you were in your crib "going down for a nap" when we heard a ear piercing screech. Needless to say your dad and I went rushing into your room to see what was wrong and there you were smiling away. Apparently you had discovered the higher, pterodactyl-like octaves and were practicing away.
By the end of the month you were semi-sitting. I would sit you up, stretch your legs into a V and prop your arms out in front of you. The first few times, you just collapsed to the side, but eventually you could hold the pose for a few minutes at a time.
This month I also tried out your Mama's and Papa's chair (a small supportive chair that sits on the ground) to help you think vertical. You are not a fan. You'll give it a few minutes before you start protesting loudly. I think you are just too skinny and so there isn't much support.
We have had some good play time. You continue to enjoy your playmat and are using more and more of it now that you are getting more dexterous. You have discovered the crinkle toys attached to the bottom of it and will grab them and use them as a lever to flip yourself over to your stomach. Unfortunately you still are not rolling the other way (on purpose).
The playpen also was the site of some extreme "playing" this month. I try to give you some naked playtime every now and then to give you a break from diapers and to air you out. To do so I put down a hospital pad on the mat and let you hang out on it nudey (which you love)! You were doing this one day when I looked down to find you had a substantial poop and were rolling around in it slip and slide style. It looked like you were covered head to foot in yellow mustard. Needless to say we had an emergency bath.
The biggest news is we began sleep training this month. Your dad and I discussed our plan of attack ahead of time. He left it up to me since your crying didn't "affect him like it affected me". Hrmph. So we went to bed without any real plan. The first time you woke up around midnight and I let you cry for 15 minutes. Not so bad. The next time around 3:30am I let you cry for 45 minutes. It was so so sad. The next morning the first thing your dad said was, "why did you let her cry so long!?" Umm....because I was trying to be a tough parent like him! I guess he's a softie after all.
So our method worked, until you didn't. Unfortunately you fell off the wagon (about a week later) right when your Granddad came to visit so we put "the cry it out" method on hold until he left. I am hoping your sleep becomes more consistent next month because those few nights of 4+ hours in a row were glorious! Your favorite new position for sleeping in on your side with your head tilted up behind you. I thought you were looking at the light on the humidifier, but you do it in whatever direction you are oriented in the crib. I think you are actually mimicking how you sleep/eat when I am lazy and bring you in the bed with me in the early morning.
Speaking of your Grandad, you had a great time with him while he visited. You enjoyed his billy goat goatee, his shiny Diet Coke cans, and most of all Tuxie the penguin you got on the trip to the aquarium. He was also very helpful to your dad and me. Not only did he fix our dishwasher, but he converted your baby girl stroller into your big girl stroller.
You look so tiny in it! Not sure if you are a fan of it yet because you aren't snuggled into it like your carrier, but you do get to see a ton more which I think you like. I think I need to actually get a smaller on-the-go stroller for the back of the car though, because this one is a beast to get in and out.
It was a great month Lucille baby. Both your dad and I are so in love with you. When we have tough days all we have to do is think about your sweet smile and everything is good again in the world. Thank you for being so wonderful!
